An evening devoted to the simplest of questions – yet one that creates such confusion:

What should I eat?

Saturday, February 3rd 5:30-8:30pm

Hosted by Grounded Health & Wellness and Dauntless Fitness & Health

Are you confused about what to eat? Are you unsure which foods are healthy and which ones are not? If you answered “yes” to those questions, you are not alone.  Michael Pollan, author of the book, In Defense of Food, and film by the same name presents his view of why Americans, in their state of confusion, have taken a wrong turn, developing an unhealthy perspective on food and have chronic health issues to show for it.   Using real life examples he explains the correlation between an unhealthy diet, created by our food industry, and chronic health diseases, such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease, autoimmune disease, and some types of cancer.

Sadly, as obesity is becoming pandemic, the culprit remains unclear to many. Our children are suffering. As confusion increases, the age of being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes is decreasing. What was once considered an adult onset disease is now being found in young children.

Consumption of “nutrients” in parts is replacing the nourishment and enjoyment of food the way our ancestors experienced it.  Our relationship with food has become skewed. However, WE have the power to reset it. As a mother, nurse and health educator, I am concerned. I spend a great deal of time thinking about food and the health of my family.  If you, like me, are passionate about your health and the health of those you love, spend an evening listening and learning some of the science behind what is happening to our culture and why our problems are spreading to other cultures as well.

If you want clarity, this is a must see film. Our hope in pulling like-minded community members together for the evening is to prompt discussion based around the health issues plaguing our society.  Education is the first step. Action is needed if change is to occur.  The message is simple: EAT FOOD. NOT TOO MUCH. MOSTLY PLANTS. But, we need to act together to “Defend Food”.  Together we can create healthy families and communities!

  • $10/family suggested donation at the door.
